Yeni Ramana: pumpjack meets laundry

Imagine you look out of your kitchen window and you see a donkey in your yard. And actually you behold a nodding donkey, aka pumpjack or oil derrick. Chances are high that you live on the Absheron peninsula and you built your house amidst the nodding donkeys. On the Absheron each donkey is typically accompanied by a tall steel tower that stands just above it. I could not yet figure out the function of it. It seems that a steel ladder goes up to a shaky platform on mid level and further up to the top. What is inspected from this elevated point?

Yeni Ramana: tourist, tourist

Yeni Ramana is located at one of the lakes on the Absheron and on another tour I had seen oil rigs rising into the sky on its other side. Our plan was to walk over and have a close look on them. However, we missed the bus stop at the lake and tried then to walk in the direction we thought the lake would be.

Yeni Ramana: hospitality

Yeni Ramani, the new Ramana, is a small settlement on the Absheron peninsula, rather close to Baku. It is close to the “old” Ramana, just called Ramana, that is said to be founded by the Romans, hence the name. New Ramana has nothing special to offer on a first look, besides it is built around oil rigs – but this will be the matter of another post.
